Category applied for:HVAC CONSULTING ENGINEER OF THE YEAR
Submission date:12-Aug-2024
Submission Entry:
1.) Given that buildings consume 40% of global energy, within which at least 40% is consumed by HVAC systems, how has the goal of 1.5 C additionally impacted your design development strategies? What specific design or equipment/controls selection changes have you incorporated (or suggested) in your designs in order to support the 1.5 goal? (150 words) (311)

Answer: 1
- Enhance U values & never exceed the values of SBC code.
- Specifying high-efficiency HVAC equipment with advanced control.
- Applying the energy recovery systems
- apply & using occupancy load control.
- considering the load profile of internal load
- Use demand control ventilation as per LEED/Mustadam requirements

2
- using advanced building management systems (BMS).
- Utilized occupancy sensors and advanced scheduling to minimize unnecessary energy use
- Evaluated the refrigerants used in HVAC systems, favoring those with lower global warming
- Use of advanced technologies such as variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems, heat recovery ventilation
- Specifying variable-speed compressors, fans, and pumps to allow the HVAC system to operate at optimal efficiency across varying loads
- Innovative air distribution systems, like displacement ventilation and underfloor air distribution, that enhance indoor air quality and comfort

2.) Describe what building performance indicators would you like to study or observe, if given an opportunity to visit a project you worked on, as part of a team or as an individual consultant. And why? (This is beyond the Defects Liability Period and could span the lifetime of the project.) (200 words) (312)

Answer: Building performance indications:
- Monitor actual energy consumption and compare it to the design targets.
-Analyze the HVAC system's energy performance, including equipment efficiency and part-load operation
-Assess the thermal comfort of the building (T, RH% and air velocity)
- Observe the occupants' satisfaction
- Identify any issues or complaints related to IEQ and investigate their root causes, such as system malfunctions or design limitations
- Assess the building's resilience to extreme weather events, power outages, and other disruptions, and identify areas for improvement.

Why?
By studying these performance indicators , I can gain insights into the actual performance of the HVAC systems, identify areas for improvement, and optimize the building's energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, and overall sustainability. This knowledge can then be applied to the design of future projects.

3.) In the past one year, how have you applied AI/IoT in projects you are given an opportunity to work on? What technological initiatives have you brought to bear as an individual and as a member of a team of engineering consultants? (150 words) (313)

Answer: No

4.) In the past one year, what percentage of your design projects have secured a Green Building certification? And under which rating systems and at what levels of certification? (100 words) (314)

Answer: Royal Equestrian & Polo Club at Wadi Saffar - LEED Platinum

5.) In the past one year, how much carbon emission reduction has been achieved by the projects that you have designed, or been a substantial part of? (100 words) (315)

Answer: Najdi Residential districts Diriyah - LEED Platinum
Royal Equestrian & Polo Club at Wadi Saffar - LEED Platinum

6.) Anything else you wish to say, which you feel would bolster your case? (150 words) (316)

Answer: In 2014 in the project of King Faysal medical city with Capacity of 1350 Beds, we apply the heat recovery chillers to eliminate the boiler required for VAV reheat coil
and save energy consumption.
