Dear Colleagues:

Last week, I elaborated on the hopes and aspirations that underpin the Climate Control Awards and explained how they are aimed at motivating and directing organisations, individuals, projects or services to pay sustained and abundant attention to such issues as improving energy efficiency and improving indoor environmental quality, to state just two.

This week, I shall speak on the issues in the context of Climate Control Awards 2018, while discussing the framework of the entry form

The entry form requires you to write an essay (in 500-1,000 words) on the following question: In the time period starting from October 1, 2017 to September 1, 2018, what has been the most important contribution you have made as an organisation, individual, project or service towards comprehensively improving, or contributing to the comprehensive improvement of, the condition of the world?

The contribution could be in terms of 17 socio-economic or sustainable development targets, many of which are reflected in various regional and international vision documents.

The 17 targets are…

  1. Mitigating climate change (reducing direct and indirect emissions)
  2. Protecting the ozone layer (reducing direct emissions)
  3. Harnessing clean renewable energy for enhancing building performance and process cooling regimes
  4. Safeguarding soil, air and water
  5. Providing thermal comfort indoors or outdoors without compromising on energy efficiency
  6. Providing acoustical comfort
  7. Providing clean indoor air, including in underground car parks (protecting from chemical and microbial contaminants
  8. Ensuring food safety
  9. Ensuring and supporting the cause of food security
  10. Ensuring vaccine potency
  11. Ensuring fire safety
  12. Supporting blood banks and other entities that need specific and mission-critical climate-controlled environments
  13. Protecting and ensuring the well-being of data centres, in terms of proper cooling and dehumidification and, at the same time, ensuring energy-efficient operation
  14. Providing specific ambient conditions with a view to protecting cultural entities (museums and the artworks, within), and in improving the functionality of printing presses, etc.
  15. Enhancing the reliability and cost-effectiveness of process cooling while providing safe and comfortable working conditions to those working in the process cooling industry
  16. Giving specific options and choices to government bodies as they explore and implement projects (EXPO 2020, etc.) aimed at national, regional and global development
  17. Other (please specify and elaborate on your contribution towards this socio-economic or sustainable development target)

In Part 3, we shall look at how you could possibly frame your entry in as comprehensive, relevant and accurate a manner as possible.
